Miss Lori’s CAMPUS, Art’lin Craft ‘n Create, the beginning.
Miss Lori’s CAMPUS Art’lin classes on Tuesday’s mean Craft ‘n Create with Miss Jennifer. Miss? Jennifer, a former Gallery 37 artist, brings a sense of light hearted fun and inspired creativity to this crafty class. In week one CAMPUS kids turned ordinary pipe cleaners into stunning accessories to wear with pride. In week two students created personallized puppets using paper bags, magazine features, ribbon, construction paper, markers, fringe, feathers, and anything else they could get their hands on.
Coming up this week CAMPUS kids will have the chance to? create their very own popsicle stick picture frames to highlight their favorite picture of themselves or a loved one.
Engagement, enlightenment, empowerment!

Miss Lori’s CAMPUS, Art’lin Picture Books and Murals with Mister Kevin, the beginning.
At Miss Lori’s CAMPUS Art’lin classes on Wednesday and Thursday mean Picture Book and Mural classes with Mister Kevin. During week one and two of the Fall session CAMPUS students learned about primary colors and how to mix them to create warm and cool colors. They painted underwater scenes inspired by a vast array of picture books that Mister Kevin brought in? as references. Students also learned about “Perspective;”? discovering that things that are close appear larger than things that are far away. Students then created paintings that demonstrated perspective and were challenged to also tell the story that their paintings depicted.
Mister Kevin is a dynamic teacher with an easy way of imparting challenging information. As a result the CAMPUS kids are growing in leaps and bounds with their new found understanding of the creation of art and are empowered to express themselves in new and insightul ways. Isn’t that what we want for all of our children really?

Miss Lori is Mom first and foremost
It’s the littlest things really…
I absolutely love being “Miss Lori”. I get to touch children all across the country doing work that I love. I am greeted with spontaneous hugs from children everywhere. It is so heartwarming.
However, I have another title that means even more to me. My favorite title is that of “Mom,” and today? I heard the best thing from my? 4 year old? daughter. In the car this morning on the way to teach at Miss Lori’s CAMPUS? Jaedyn spontaneously said to me, “Mom… You are the coolest Mommy? anyone could ever have.”
Not the coolest television host.
Not the coolest recording artist.
Not the coolest educator.
No, the coolest Mom.
Now that’s cool!

Brittany, Lindsay, Vanessa…Miss Lori asks, “Is your daughter next?”
| Brittany, Lindsay, Vanessa…Miss Lori asks, “Is your daughter next?” |
| If we socialize our young girls to believe that being “sexy” is necessary and appropriate can we then be outraged when they behave sexually, (posing nude on their cell phones, traipsing around town without any underwear)?
If we accept advertising in the family hour that proclaims “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas” are we then allowed to be shocked when our children engage in deviant behavior when they are away from our watchful eyes? Our children deserve to grow up slowly. We shouldn’t kick them straight to pre-adult content entertainment just as soon as they are weaned off of Barney and Dragon Tales. Yet that is exactly what we are doing these days. It is time for us to stop riding by the accident of youth? gawking at the carnage; it is instead time for us to stand up for our children’s right to innocence. What’s the alternative…All you have to do is look at the cover of an? US or Star? magazine to see your child’s future. We are not immune. We are responsible. |
