| If we socialize our young girls to believe that being “sexy” is necessary and appropriate can we then be outraged when they behave sexually, (posing nude on their cell phones, traipsing around town without any underwear)?
If we accept advertising in the family hour that proclaims “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas” are we then allowed to be shocked when our children engage in deviant behavior when they are away from our watchful eyes? Our children deserve to grow up slowly. We shouldn’t kick them straight to pre-adult content entertainment just as soon as they are weaned off of Barney and Dragon Tales. Yet that is exactly what we are doing these days. It is time for us to stop riding by the accident of youth? gawking at the carnage; it is instead time for us to stand up for our children’s right to innocence. What’s the alternative…All you have to do is look at the cover of an? US or Star? magazine to see your child’s future. We are not immune. We are responsible. |
