Happy Halloween Everyone! Hard to believe it’s already here. It’s been particularly special for us this year because for the first time it hasn’t been relegated to one day. We participated in a community/business trick or treat last weekend. Today we have two others available to us here in Chicago, that I know if so far. I prefer it to the evening trick or treating we had been doing for the last 11 years. I like to see everyone’s costumes, and I especially like to really see the people my kids are getting candy from.
Ah yes, the candy. Soooo much candy. I was at Costco earlier in the week and they had huge displays of candy. I went there last night and only about a fifth of it was left. Yikes! (This would be a good time to remind you all that I am the Ambassador for the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry’s Healthy Smiles Healthy Children campaign. Hint, hint go see your dentist yearly.) Speaking of the candy, there are ways to utilize it without children consuming all of it. A few years ago I published some suggestions that we employ in our house; candy trade.

On my way to the market I met celebrity fitness trainer Kathy Kaehler! Well, that’s not exactly how it happened for me, but it did for many other people. For the last two months Kathy was on tour with Healthy Ones encouraging people to make smart choices for themselves and their families at the grocery store. The Healthy Ones street team was on hand with money saving coupons and recipe ideas, while Kathy put customers through their paces with her killer 5 minute circuit, (a great way to steal a workout out of our highly crowded days.)
I had a fantastic time working out with Kathy and I really took her suggestions to heart. One week after meeting with her I was in Southern Illinois shooting a commercial. There I was at 6am on a pier in “hurry up and wait” mode, when it hit me; thanks to Kathy I could make use of that downtime.

I gotta tell you I am mad. I am really mad. Just a few weeks ago I wrote about the death of Derrion Albert less than a mile from his school. He was beaten to death on the street by a gang of youths armed with railroad ties. The entire event was captured on video, particularly the absence of help. He was an innocent kid stuck walking a gauntlet of violence to get from school to the bus stop to home. Now we have Gamma.
Gamaliel Toscano actually participated in a safe haven program that helps get kids off of the street and away from gangs. Not far enough apparently, because at 245pm on Thursday, October 22 Gamma was gunned down in an alley on his way home from school.
Why? Well, isn?t that the million dollar question.

Disney has gone into it’s vault again and released a re-masterd version of it’s classic tale Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. This time in it’s in HD and on Blu-Ray. The Diamond Edition! The best part, you get both discs in a limited edition combo pack! (Already own it upgrade with a $10 coupon good only today October 20th!)
I remember watching this movie when I was young, but truthfully I was so busy performing myself that I didn’t spend a lot of time on it. Plus, we didn’t have portable anything in the 70’s! Now my kids have not only TV’s in the house, but computers, handhelds and even screens in the car to see their favorite movies. That’s why I have to keep an arsenal of good media available for them, especially on long trips.
Disney and One 2 One Network were kind enough to send me a combo pack
for my family to reveiew and enjoy. Even better, they want you to enjoy

When the package with the Snow White combo pack arrived at our house October 5th my edlest children didn’t flinch, but my youngest, Jaedyn, started squeeling and doing cartwheels. She was very excited to see a story she is very familiar with finally on DVD.
