Miss Lori needs to get back to Disney World

Ever since I got home from the Disney Social Media Moms Conference I have had a string of bad luck. Truthfully it actually started at the airport on the way home. First my son’s carry on bag broke. Ok, well there are lots of stores at the airport. In fact the Disney store was running a special; you get a great Disney carry on bag at a discount if you buy $20 worth of other merchandise. My girls get some souveniers, and my son gets the bag. Great! Except as soon as he filled the new bag up the zipper broke. Ok, that can happen. No biggy. The store exchanges it quickly and my son just has to take everything out, again, and put it into the 2nd new bag. Problem solved. Now I can finally pay for the items. But wait, my gift card from the conference came up as inactive. In-what! But it is brand new? It’s supposed to have money available on it. Ok. Whatever. We got so many nice things on this trip, no need to quibble, right?

We get home and there were a few more little issues that started to arise, like my garage door remote was missing from minivan, and my TV remote was missing from my bedroom. Well, that kind of thing happens all the time. Right? Nothing to fret about. I’ll just goto sleep after a long day of travel. Ugh, my Ikea bed is broken…again. Truth is I’m way too tired to worry about sleeping on a slope. Sleep on any angle is what’s most important.

Next day I wake up to serious chest congestion. Aww rubber nuggets. Well, I guess I could see that coming. I got barely any sleep all week in Orlando, plus it was cold and I had to fly on airplanes with lots of people coughing and sneezing. (Not to mention the fact that I have had my own wheezing cough since November). So…. Well, the Mommies don’t get to be sick. I’ll just muscle through. We know the drill. Gotta keep on keeping on. Well, maybe I can get on keeping on after one more hour of angled sleep.

When I finally got out of my sloped bed Sunday I went down to my desktop computer to get back to work. Only problem was, the imac screen was blank, with just a flashing folder icon with a question mark in the center. NOOOOOO! Oh, I have a very bad feeling, but there is nothing to be done right at the moment besides make an appointment at the Genius Bar for Monday. Hello Mac Store?

Monday came around and I got in my car to goto my regular Playgroup teaching gig only to find the engine light shinning brightly at me. REALLY?! The engine light, REALLY?! Okay, it’s probably nothing. Maybe it will just go away. That happens sometimes doesn’t it? The light just goes away? Yeah, right! Ok, just keep moving. Teach, errands, help kids with homework, cough, wheeze and then pack up and take computer to the Genius Bar. Sitting there at the counter trying to remember the glow of Disney World, I didn’t feel like a genius. Especially when the young genius asked me if I had backed up my hard drive. Uh, noo. I didn’t have the money or the time before I left on my trip, (or at any other point during the past year).  “Ah,” the young genius said. “Well, I’m sorry to say but all of the videos, pictures and music you loaded on the computer this past year are locked in the internal hard drive and your computer isn’t detecting it.” Say What?! Oh please don’t do this to me. I’m a good blogger. I work really hard. I document everything that my children do… that other people’s children do. I just didn’t have the time or money to get an external hard drive to back up my information. Please don’t punish me for that?! Ok breathe. Tweet, do whatever you have to do to make it out of the store without collapsing in tears Lori. BLAHHH!

So, I make it home in one piece, refusing to think about the pile of junk, that once was my trusted desktop, in my bag. No. No. No. If I don’t look at it it’s not real. That’s what my kids do with their dirty laundry, why can’t that work for me? Ok, back to being the Mommy. Kids have to go to school, and I have a week’s worth of shows to perform.

Tuesday I get all the children off in the morning, run back home to walk the dog, and then I’m off to my first show of the week. About 5 minutes away from the event I got a call from my partner wondering where I was. Where I was? I AM in my car driving to my 11am show in time for my 1030am call, of course! “Uh, no, the show is actually at 1030. All of the children are here right now,” my partner tells me. 1030!!!! You have got to be kidding me. The email confirmation says 11am. I have it right here. I know, I checked, just to be sure. But none of that matters, because THE KIDS ARE WAITING! Seriously? What did I do wrong. Why is all of this happening?! Can’t think about it, I’ve got a show to do.

The show went great. The kids were lovely as usual. I was beat though. My breathing was a little shallow and I was sweating buckets. No time to be sick Mommy. Back to walk the dog and then off to grab the kids. Dance lessons, dinner prep, homework, cough, hack, sleep, broken bed. Sweet Misery!

Bring on Wednesday! Yes, Wednesday was all about damage control after a deposit check bounced because my husband used an expired home equity check to make it. Thursday the dog threw up on the living room rug, and my daughter left her back pack on the school playground with her brand new air Jordan’s inside, TWO DAYS IN A ROW! Friday I took my mocking engine light to AutoZone for a diagnostic check to find it means my “Catalyst efficiency low-bank”. Low-bank? Yeah, that’s what I’ve got, LOW BANK. TOO low bank to pay for a repair. Jeez, I just got this ’05 Chrysler in September! And then this morning, to top it all off, my brand new Mickey, bold faced watch from the Disney Social Media Conference fell off my wrist while I was walking the dog! UNCLE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I give up. What is going on here? What did I do? Seriously. WHAT!?! Am I missing something?…Wait! That’s it! Something’s missing. I know what it is. Of course, why didn’t I think of it sooner?!

Dear Disney World,

I seem to have left my magic in your park. Would you be so kind as to mail it back to me here in Chicago. I cant afford to be without it much longer.

SMILE On!
