So here’s the skinny. If there is anything I have learned from the last year and a half of pro-blogging it’s that you’ll never get anywhere unless you put your ideas out there. l have been an entertainer my whole life, so I am used to putting myself in front of the public, but it took me a moment or two to figure out how to put myself properly in front of businesses. Part of that was because I didn’t believe that I truly had something to offer, from a marketing stand point. But what I have gained more than anything from my time spent in the blogosphere is a clearer sense of marketing, social media and most importantly myself. I’m not just a performer who blogs a little. I am”marketainer”. I not only enjoy creating my media and performing it for families, I have cultivated a talent for strengthening the bonds between brands and consumers, one smile at a time.
So why am I bringing all of this up right now. Well, because there is a little conference coming up. Perhaps you have heard of it. Blogher. I had the great pleasure of attending my first Blogher in my home city of Chicago last Summer. It was a remarkable experience, one I absolutely don’t want to miss this year, especially in NYC. But in order for me to attend this year’s conference I need to secure sponsorship funds in the amount of $3000 to cover transportation, lodging, conference tickets and meals. In this economy I know that it is so much easier for companies to trade goods rather than money. As a small business owner myself I completely understand. And in most cases I find ways to make due with merchandise trades, but for this event, cash is key, (or a check). It doesn’t have to all come from one place. I can support more than one interest at a time. (Hey, I’ve got three kids). However, there is something to be said for singular focus.
What do I do that would warrant three zeroes. Well, of course, the usual. Blog posts, whrrl stories, tweets, updates, hashtags, giveaways, discussions, chats, vlogs and the like. But more than that, what I have to offer is my SMILE. Not just because my dentist has done a great job over the years, but because my SMILE is known. Unlike a lot of bloggers, (who are wonderful, by the way), I’m not a disembodied twitter id that people may love, but couldn’t necessarily pick out in a crowded conference hall. Thanks to my work on National television, my subsequent CD and DVD, and my concert tours, I have a face that is easily recognized, bringing people to me, instead of the other way around. Isn’t that what you want for your company at a conference, for people to come to you?
You could have the best product or message in the World, but it means nothing if people don’t hear about it. It’s all in the conversation. Let me start several for you at Blogher 2010, (or Blogalicious, Type A, BlogWorld, Sitscation. You get the idea.) There will be a lot of company’s vying for the ear of the attendees at Blogher. Sponsor me and magnetize your brand. Let me be the human element of your brand for the entire weekend; mixing, mingling and talking. Together we will meet, greet and socialize with the very people who feed and energize social media consumerism, one SMILE at a time.
SMILE On!
