Last month I had the great pleasure of attending the Disney Social Media Moms Conference in Orlando, Florida. Our second day of the conference we attended a celebration of volunteerism at Epcot Center. Trucks were rolling out, carrying food to people in need both domestically and in Haiti. But in order for that to happen volunteers were needed to stack cans, seed trees and stuff Ziploc bags with supplies. The most impressive message of the day for me was that every little bit counts.
Every moment of time contributed by both young and old helps to make a difference in peoples lives. That’s what the Disney Give a Day, Get a Day campaign hoped to inspire in one million people across the United States and Puerto Rico. And they have done it! In just three months one million people have either completed or committed to volunteering. In exchange they will receive a Disney park pass good for use through the end of this year.
With the goal having been reached the giveaway program is now over, However, I am hoping that Disney will see fit to keep the program going. I have written quite a bit in the last few months about the power of Disney MAGIC. I don’t know a single parent around who doesn’t want their child to have the chance to experience that magic first hand during their childhood years. However, in this economy that can be a nearly impossible thing to do. We need people to step up and help each other during these difficult times. Parents need help bringing magical opportunities to their children’s lives, and Disney wants to share their parks with the World. The Give a Day, Get a Day program is a trifecta win for all.
So, Tom Staggs, Chairman of Disney Parks and Resorts, here is my personal plea to you. Keep up the good work and let the Give a Day, Get a Day program continue. For GIVING is what truly makes the World go round…MAGICALLY!
