Miss Lori says building a brand starts with knowing yourself

You know why being a social media influencer/marketer/business person is so spiritual for some people? Because of the work that’s necessary you to do in order to define your niche. When you work in a job, no matter the hours, (9 to 5, 10-2, 7-11), that job defines itself. You don’t have to dig deep to give it an identity. But when you build a brand online through a blog, (micro or full), you have to do a level of self exploration not usually required in corporate America. You have to identify who you are from the inside out so you can cultivate your voice. An authentic voice that your community will respond to because it speaks to them viscerally. That journey of self exploration, the journey to define your niche, can be intense. But the light at the end of the tunnel is so bright, and genuine, and promising. To fully realize your potential, not only as a professional, but as a human being, is priceless.

I have been walking this pathway personally for some time now. And though I have stubbed my toe on many a stone along the way, my journey has been ultimately authentic and fruitful. Every step that I take brings me closer to myself. Not the self that I put on like a costume, but my true self; mind, body and soul. That is spiritual. Make no mistake it is work. And the work has generated blood, sweat and tears. But what accomplishment worth achieving doesn’t? That is why I do what I do. And that is also why I attended the Blogalicious conference in Miami this past weekend. Because I feel it is my duty, my privilege, to share my journey with others, both individually and in groups. It is my hope to shine a little light on their pathway, and extend a hand when they stumble. No sense in them tripping on a stone unnecessarily, when it is easy enough for me to alert them to its’ presence. That’s what community is for, isn’t it?
