Miss Lori knows first hand that it gets better

When I was a little girl I was bullied and harassed. I was sexually abused, I had no real friends, I felt alone, and unlovable. I thought of suicide often. I didn’t really want to die, I just wanted desperately for the World to stop. What kept me alive in grade school was the idea that before I would die I would need to write a letter to every single person who hurt me, but that would just take too long. So I lived. I wasn’t out of the woods. I experienced deeper troubles in my young adulthood, and I almost lost the battle, twice. But I fought and I’m still here. Now I have three more reasons to fight as hard as I can for a better day; for them, for me, for us. It gets better!

“It Gets Better”

Written by: Miss Lori

November 10, 2010

Come over here and listen to me I’ve got a story to be told
About a little girl who struggled to find her place in the World
I’ll tell you the truth it was touch and go, she often lost her way
but she pulled herself up, held onto her dreams
and that’s why she’s here today.

It gets better
I promise you can win
It gets better
just dig down deep within
It gets better
though some days may make you cry
It gets better
but it won’t if you don’t try.

She wished for a World that was color blind, but not blind to love
She wished for a World that didn’t mind who she prayed to up above.
She wished for a Word that celebrated her individuality
a world full of friends, parties, and smiles and completely bully free.

It gets better
I promise you can win
It gets better
just dig down deep within
It gets better
though some days make you cry
It gets better
but it won’t unless you try

You don’t have to dress the part in order to belong.
You don’t have to walk the walk or sing the same old song
You don’t have to stay the course, you can skip it and just run
Cause we’re all just human beings underneath this great big sun.

It gets better
I promise you can win
It gets better
just dig down deep within
It gets better
though some days make you cry
It gets better
but it won’t unless you try

no it won’t unless you try
no it won’t
It won’t get better

if you die
