I am counting down my blessings for the last fourteen days of being 40 and counting up my wishes for my year as 41. This coupling is about being true to who you are as a professional, not standing in the way of your own creativity, and being very clear about not just what you want in life, but what you need.
Blessing number 11:
As many of you who follow my blogposts and tweets I have been struggling with car difficulties for the past year. I bought a minivan from a used car lot Unfortunately for me, the car lot didn’t do right by me. Well, truth be told I didn’t do right by me either, because I was a little desperate. That is not the way to do a deal. And I knew that, but my life doesn’t move without a car so, I saw what I wanted to see, and heard what I wanted to hear. Not unlike a lot of families shopping for cars these days. It’s tough out there. But you know that. Anyway…on with my sob story. So, my platinum car started showing it’s true color, yellow, (as in a lemon), within months. Then just a little over a year later at Christmas the gritty truth from my parents’ mechanic, this car is not going to get any better without thousands of dollars of work. So, I did what any social media influencing maven would do, I tweeted about it. I wrote about “tweet leads to opportunity” earlier this year, so let me just get to the thanks part. I am thankful that in my year of forty I was given an opportunity to test drive a car and I didn’t just think as a 7 day free ride. I didn’t just drive the car and post a few pictures. I put my creativity into overdrive and created videos examining the car, as if I was being paid to do so, when in fact I wasn’t. But for me that doesn’t matter you get my best whether I am being paid or not, because at the end of the “post” is my name no matter what disclosure I have to add to the byline. Well, my work got noticed. It created an opportunity for another test drive, and then another, and then another. When all was said and done From January through April I was generously allowed to demo seven vehicles from General Motors.
I am thankful because it saved me money. I am thankful because it kept my children safe from a vehicle that lacked a proper heater in the Winter months. and I am thankful because it made me a better blogger and vlogger. I certainly know that it has made me a much better consumer. I won’t be that gullible the next time I go to a car dealer. What an education I have had, and boy did I love learning it.
Wish number 11:
Onto my wishes for age 41. Like I said earlier my life doesn’t roll without a functioning vehicle. My Summer tour starts on my birthday his year. Pretty convenient huh? I will put approximately 3500 miles on my car with my Summer events alone. Crazy! That’s why my 11th wish is for a new car that I can depend on. I can get it as a reasonably priced lease, a certified used car-with a reasonably priced loan, or even better, I would love to continue my car vlogging for other companies. There is still so much left for me to learn about cars, and even more that I truly believe I can creatively share with my community.
What does your car mean to you? I would love to know.
