Miss Lori’s appetite is disappearing and so is she

I have been working with nutritionist David Grotto for three weeks now. I have been logging all of my foods, moving my proteins to the morning, and my carbs to the evening, increasing my fiber, decreasing my sodium. No real heavy lifting. Although eventually I would like to. Heavy weights for exercise that is. But I digress. These three weeks have been been heavy on my mind, because I am working so hard retraining it. I am retraining my mind trying to instill new eating habits. And let me tell you it is exhausting. No, I’m serious, it is really exhausting. It makes my head hurt because I have to think so much more about everything that I am eating. Which means I have to do more planning for my meals, and by extension my shopping. What I have found is that I don’t just have to think about what I eat I also have to think about eating in general. Since starting this journey with David, I have discovered that I eat less calories than I thought that I did. I thought it was a fluke. That perhaps I was just playing it safe with my eating because I knew that people were watching. But then week two my schedule got back to the insane pace that it usually is, and I knew that I couldn’t be playing it safe, because there just wasn’t anytime to do so. Nope, the numbers were all mine and they were real. And the numbers told a story, of what my days were like for the week, and what my body needs to work at optimum level. Then after the third week, my big realization is that I am not eating enough calories now because,…news flash…I am not all that hungry. Making all of the adjustments to my food choices, and to the times that I eat them, is having  an amazing effect on my appetite, it has reduced it.

Comparison with Goals

From: 09/30/2011 To 10/06/2011

Average for the Period Recommended per day
Total Calories: 1,648 1500 calories
Total Carbohydrate: 57% 45%
Total Fat: 26% 35%
Protein: 21% 20%
Cholesterol: 234 mg 100 – 300 mg
Sodium: 2,813 mg 1500 – 2300 mg
Potassium: 2,039 mg 3400 – 4700 mg
Dietary Fiber: 23 g 25 – 50 g

You want to know what else is being reduced…me. I am getting smaller! I wasn’t really aware of it because my numbers on the scale aren’t decreasing rapidly. But the scale doesn’t know everything. No I realized that there was less of me to love when  went to the Ross Dress for Less Insider event last Thursday. I tried on seven dresses. Not just any kind of dresses. I tried on sweater dresses, wrap dresses and …wait for it…MINI dresses! This just keeps getting crazier and crazier!

So this is working. this plan is really working! Do you hear me. there is hope. We have hope even though our schedules are unreasonable, and we don’t have time to workout regularly. Our weight doesn’t have to be a lost cause, or a foregone conclusion. So stop beating yourself up, you are human, just like me. We both are going to stumble along the way. But as long as we get up and keep trying, keep life and our weight in perspective, we will find a way forward. Yes forward. Not backward to an old you, but forward to the best you you can be today. One meal at a time.

Are you game?

Week four goal: Be fruit and veggie-licious!

I am going to continue to try and make beans a staple in my diet-(Which means I need to go shopping!)

Double my smoothie intake to four times this week.

Eat a piece of raw fruit every day.

Bonus task: Be very precise about my water intake so we can have an accurate assessment of my hydration.

Ready, set, EAT!

SMILE On!

I get that this hurts your brain. I’m working hard and not seeing the scale move. And when the scale doesn’t move, it makes me want to eat.

  3. Looking hawt in that mini! Congrats!

  4. I love this. I need to have smoothies MUCH more often… thinking about ordering some frozen mixes (wild berry) so that I can have this in the house for whenever I need it. :)

I also need to start tracking *everything* like you are. I think this would help me A TON. Very curious why the protein in the morning/carbs in evening theory though. Maybe I’ll remember to tweet you for more info!
