I took my children to DC because I felt as the mother of African American children it was my duty to bring them to our Nation’s capital while we have our first black President in office. I wanted them to connect with history while simultaneously being surrounded by images of our President and his family, to solidify their right to any future they can dream of and are willing to work hard for. Images are impactful.
We toured around the whole city, but our visit began in the shadow of the same man who not only inspired a Nation, but more specifically our President Barack Obama. A man who walked a treacherous walk that cleared a path for my present, and my children’s future, and quite frankly set the wheels in motion that paved the way for Barack Obama to reach the White House.
We can all have THE DREAM.
