Summer comes early to Chicago with the 5th annual Miss Lori WTTW PBS Kids concert tours

Today was the official beginning of Summer for me. My Summer tour that is. I commenced my annual Summer tour for WTTW Channel 11 PBS Kids. Mother Nature clearly got the memo because it was a sweltering 90 plus degrees outside today. But my audience at the Lincoln Park Zoo wasn’t deterred. Not even the NATO street closures could keep them away. Today was my Readers are Leaders concert tour, celebrating a love of reading amongst children and their families. It lasts about 90 minutes, and includes my original songs, plus an interactive Little Miss Lori Adventures in Five Year Old Living story. June 2nd will be this Summer’s first performance of my Great Food Fan Van concert tour, a two hour concert style musical broken into 5 parts that rotates from songs, to the reading tent, to onsite sponsor demos. I call this show AWESOME Health because it is a full-on celebration of the building blocks of good health; Active Play, Healthy Food, Peaceful sleep and AWESOME fun. On the tour I am be joined by the wildly energetic Mister Brandon from WTTW, and occasionally by The CAMPUS Kids and characters like Maya and Miguel. The best part for em is that every performance is free. There are so many things that parents can’t take advantage of in this depressed economy because they are too cost prohibitive. That’s why it is so important to me to provide family entertainment and education that is free for all. An easy YES for all families. That’s what males this work so special for me. As a mother myself I know how necessary parenting partners are. And that’s exactly what I want my concerts and tours to be, parenting partners. But I can’t make that happen alone. My tours wouldn’t be possible without the partnering of great sponsors such as Aldi, Traditional Medicinals, Organic Valley, Carl Buddig & CompanyCarlson For Kids Nutritionals, Wisconsin Dells, Happy Family and more. These companies understand how vital it is to provide good products for families, but also good content and education. It’s a team effort. We are teammates for each other and teammates for the community.

This Summer promises to be one of the hottest on record. Which is why I will be pushing not only my hydration agenda, but my skin protection agenda as well. If you have ever attended one of my outdoor concerts you know that I consistently remind kids to hydrate as a part of their health regimen. I do this because children are seriously dehydrated these days. We as a community are not encouraging them to drink hydrating liquids, more and often. We are also not leading by example. We have to do better for them, and ourselves, which is why I worked hydration directly into my Great Food Fan Van script over the years. My hope is that my musical reminders will make a difference.I have water bottles at my Miss Lori’s CAMPUS merchandise table, but it would be great to get a sponsor with a great product to fill them with.

This Summer I am also going to remind families to use sun screen. Over the years I have had children come to my shows, without hats, water bottles or sunscreen protection. I get so worried that it’s hard for me to even concentrate. Skin cancer is real; a real problem that is. We have so many ways to protect ourselves and our children, but they are no good to us if we don’t actually use them. What I would really love is to be able to offer sun screen samples for all families in need., right at my shows. I’m working on that. If you think you can help, I’d love to hear from you. It takes a village you know.
