The Chicago Teachers Union have announced that Chicago teachers are on strike. That means parents of over 400,000 students in Chicago have to make alternative plans for their children Monday. The Chicago Public Schools has some temporary care, but it won’t be education, just a placeholder. 144 schools will be open, but only for a couple of hours during the day, 830am-1230pm. There will be a meal or two, but there will be no transportation. You can goto www.cps.edu to find out what is available to your child and you can pre-register them too. Parents without access to the Internet can call 311 to sign-up their child.
A student identification (ID) number is required for registration. The student ID number can be located on all CPS progress reports and report cards or by visiting the Manage Students page in the CPS Parent Portal accessed through cps.edu. Parents of high school students can also find their student’s ID number on their child’s identification card. You may also use the Parent Portal Pin link under Edline to view your child’s ID.
There are several other companies offering engagement for Chicago students, if you have the funds to take part in them.
