Miss Lori sings I Write the Blogs for #SVMomsChevy event

YouTube Preview Image

On Sunday April 11 some pretty wonderful brands and bloggers got together to exchange ideas and and celebrate SV Moms Group off shoot, Chicago Moms Blog. Chief Chicagonista MJ Tam planned the event and asked me to create a special song to honor the contributors. I have been writing for this wonderful group for a little over a year now, so I was very excited to have the chance to lend my talents to a celebration of their achievements. In thinking about what it means to be a Mom and a blogger so many quandries came to mind. And the more I thought the more one particular tune came to mind, oen of my early favorites; I Write the Songs, made popular by my former employer Barry Manilow. ( I understudied American idol’s Debra Byrd, Chicago theatre Queen E. Faye Butler, and Vegas regular Keeley Vasquez in the production of Could It Be Magic; The Barry Manilow Songbook, at the Mercury theatre in 2001). The tune was the perfect framework for the story I wanted to tell about being a blogger, being a Mommy, and the balance, (and sometimes imbalance), of the two.

Above is a video of my debut performance of the new lyrics. Please forgive the dark light. The mood lighting of the room wasn’t conducive to videotaping. Follow along with the tune, because it’s your anthem too.

SMILE On!

Miss Lori echoes First Lady Michelle Obama’s call to action at the annual White House Easter Egg Roll

Today is Easter Monday and that means it’s time for the annual Easter Egg Roll at the White House. Over 14,500 hard boiled eggs have been decorated and are ready for duty on the White House South Lawn. There are 135,000 commemorative eggs with both the President’s and First Lady’s signatures on them. Thousands of people vied for to earn one of the coveted tickets that were issued through a lottery. It’ going to be a glorious day. But what makes me the happiest is the theme of this years’ festivities. Ready Set Go! It’s in line with Michelle Obama’s initiative as first lady to fight childhood obesity with her new Let’s Move campaign. now those of you familiar with my own mission of the last several years will absolutely understand why this makes me so happy. Even before my award winning first album in 2007, “Music ‘n Movement TOGETHER!” I was talking about getting kids to “Move, Groove and Grow” through my Miss Lori’s CAMPUS classes here in Chicago. Coincidentally I first started teaching my platform at the dance school that the Obama children attended while living here. Michelle and I actually met during an exercise class at the studio. Miss Lori already has two young ladies returning from last year. She is looking to hire two more young people, boys or girls, who look between the ages of 8 and 12, to split the work load. Applicants must be extremely comfortable with memorized dialog, as well as improv. They must be fearless performers, strong movers and have good singing skills. Most importantly they must posses smiles that stay bright no matter the outdoor conditions or the number of show repetitions.

Child performers are paid $50 per show. Doing the tour is as much a parent commitment as it is a commitment of the child, because you are responsible for all transportation to and from the events. Last Summer events were all over the Chicago suburbs and into Indiana. Please bear that in mind as you consider having your child audition for the tour.

Miss Lori herself will perform many of the shows, but she will be employing an understudy whom the CAMPUS Kids will perform with as well.

If you would like your child to be considered for an audition please submit your child’s headshot, resume, specific dates of availability and conflict, and a paragraph of introduction about your child to INFO@THECAMPUSINC.COM.

Auditions will be held March 21 and March 29.

Rehearsals are scheduled for April 18, 25, May 9 and 16 and 29.
