Today is Easter Monday and that means it’s time for the annual Easter Egg Roll at the White House. Over 14,500 hard boiled eggs have been decorated and are ready for duty on the White House South Lawn. There are 135,000 commemorative eggs with both the President’s and First Lady’s signatures on them. Thousands of people vied for to earn one of the coveted tickets that were issued through a lottery. It’ going to be a glorious day. But what makes me the happiest is the theme of this years’ festivities. Ready Set Go! It’s in line with Michelle Obama’s initiative as first lady to fight childhood obesity with her new Let’s Move campaign. now those of you familiar with my own mission of the last several years will absolutely understand why this makes me so happy. Miss Lori is counting in French on Teaching Monday!
I love using language in my teaching with toddlers and preschoolers. It’s amazing their capacity for learning. For the last few weeks we have been using Spanish words in our songs. Singing about head, shoulders, knees and toes, high fives and of course, COUNTING.

Miss Lori’s CAMPUS, Art’lin Picture Books and Murals with Mister Kevin, the beginning.
At Miss Lori’s CAMPUS Art’lin classes on Wednesday and Thursday mean Picture Book and Mural classes with Mister Kevin. During week one and two of the Fall session CAMPUS students learned about primary colors and how to mix them to create warm and cool colors. They painted underwater scenes inspired by a vast array of picture books that Mister Kevin brought in? as references. Students also learned about “Perspective;”? discovering that things that are close appear larger than things that are far away. Students then created paintings that demonstrated perspective and were challenged to also tell the story that their paintings depicted.
Mister Kevin is a dynamic teacher with an easy way of imparting challenging information. As a result the CAMPUS kids are growing in leaps and bounds with their new found understanding of the creation of art and are empowered to express themselves in new and insightul ways. Isn’t that what we want for all of our children really?
