Miss Lori wants you to have a terrific Halloween weekend in Chicago and your hometown

It’s that time of year, Halloween. And this year Halloween is lasting a touch longer, a full weekend in advance of the big day Monday. As such I am sure you and your kids are looking for something special to do. Well, my kids and I want to share with you a few of our favorite events and activities for this spooktacular weekend. But first I want to remind you of an important reason for trick or treating, UNICEF.

Miss Lori thinks an open campus would open up the minds of our children for more learning

My daughter was really excited to goto school today. Why? Because she got to wear her pajama pants. No this isn’t about some 2nd grade fashion statement, it’s a school fundraising effort. Her schools’ student council decided to raise some money for Japan relief by charging students 50 cents to wear their pajama pants to school today. Pretty ingenious huh? They have a few more initiatives this week as well, but this is the one that got my youngest the most excited. Why, again? Because it broke up the monotony of her school life. My child who absolutely loves to learn and explore, despises going to school. Why for the third time? (You sound like my kids!) Because she doesn’t feel like she gets to go deep with her learning. She would rather spend every day at a museum or zoo. That’s the kind of student I was. Hungry with curiosity.  I loved digging into a subject at school; learning something new in the morning, and coming back in the afternoon to go deeper. Miss Lori is glad Prince William is making a new memory at Westminster Abbey

Prince William is getting married tomorrow to his longtime love, Kate Middleton, at Westminster Abbey. If you recall Westminster Abbey is the site of Prince Williams’ mother’s funeral, Princess Diana. The most profoundly painful moments in his life to date I am guessing. That’s exactly why I think it is a good idea for him to get married there. No, I am not morbid or a glutton for punishment. The reality is that the only way he can demystify Westminster Abbey is to replace his sad memory with a happy one. He needs to reclaim Westminster, (and frankly so does the World). [Read more…]
