Miss Lori echoes First Lady Michelle Obama’s call to action at the annual White House Easter Egg Roll
Today is Easter Monday and that means it’s time for the annual Easter Egg Roll at the White House. Over 14,500 hard boiled eggs have been decorated and are ready for duty on the White House South Lawn. There are 135,000 commemorative eggs with both the President’s and First Lady’s signatures on them. Thousands of people vied for to earn one of the coveted tickets that were issued through a lottery. It’ going to be a glorious day. But what makes me the happiest is the theme of this years’ festivities. Ready Set Go! It’s in line with Michelle Obama’s initiative as first lady to fight childhood obesity with her new Let’s Move campaign. now those of you familiar with my own mission of the last several years will absolutely understand why this makes me so happy. Even before my award winning first album in 2007, “Music ‘n Movement TOGETHER!”
I was talking about getting kids to “Move, Groove and Grow” through my Miss Lori’s CAMPUS classes here in Chicago. Coincidentally I first started teaching my platform at the dance school that the Obama children attended while living here. Michelle and I actually met during an exercise class at the studio. Miss Lori celebrates Young Chicagonista launch with “Unpublished”
The CAMPUS Kids and I are so happy to be contributing to a fantastic new website for tweens and teens, girls in particular. It’s called Young Chicagonista. It had it’s official launch party last night, and I wrote a special song in honor of the celebration. In my household Natasha Bedingfield’s “Unwritten” has been sort of an anthem for me and the girls. Which is why it was the first song that came to mind when I was searching for a tune to use for the event. [Read more...]
Miss Lori needs to get back to Disney World
Ever since I got home from the Disney Social Media Moms Conference I have had a string of bad luck. Truthfully it actually started at the airport on the way home. First my son’s carry on bag broke. Ok, well there are lots of stores at the airport. In fact the Disney store was running a special; you get a great Disney carry on bag at a discount if you buy $20 worth of other merchandise. My girls get some souveniers, and my son gets the bag. Great! Except as soon as he filled the new bag up the zipper broke. Ok, that can happen. No biggy. The store exchanges it quickly and my son just has to take everything out, again, and put it into the 2nd new bag. Problem solved. Now I can finally pay for the items. But wait, my gift card from the conference came up as inactive. In-what! But it is brand new? It’s supposed to have money available on it. Ok. Whatever. We got so many nice things on this trip, no need to quibble, right?
We get home and there were a few more little issues that started to arise, like my garage door remote was missing from minivan, and my TV remote was missing from my bedroom. Well, that kind of thing happens all the time. Right? Nothing to fret about. I’ll just goto sleep after a long day of travel. Ugh, my Ikea bed is broken…again. Truth is I’m way too tired to worry about sleeping on a slope. Sleep on any angle is what’s most important.
Next day I wake up to serious chest congestion. Aww rubber nuggets. Well, I guess I could see that coming. I got barely any sleep all week in Orlando, plus it was cold and I had to fly on airplanes with lots of people coughing and sneezing. (Not to mention the fact that I have had my own wheezing cough since November). So…. Well, the Mommies don’t get to be sick. I’ll just muscle through. We know the drill. Gotta keep on keeping on. Well, maybe I can get on keeping on after one more hour of angled sleep. [Read more...]
Miss Lori believes in Disney magic
In five days my kids and I will fly to Disney World for the Disney Social Media Moms conference. It still seems unreal even as I type this. Here’s why…
A little background:
Last year my youngest daughter was very ill. The whole year was about fear. Fear for her health. Fear of the medical bills that were overwhelming us. Fear of what would befall us next. It was very hard. Through it all my daughter remained positive. She consistently had a sparkle in her eye and light in her heart. That’s the way she’s always been, truthfully. A bundle of hopeful, creative, inquisitive energy. The illness robbed her of much of her daily energy, but she never let it take her smile, at least not completely. I ached for her because she was robbed of so much, particularly the magic of Kindergarten, which she had looked so forward to. She lost most the year to doctors visits and procedures. It was a disappointment. She is better now, though we are always watchful since the Doctor’s never did figure out what it was that she had.
Now for my story: [Read more...]
Miss Lori says parents and educators who have patience will persevere
I started teaching when I was a teen-ager. I always loved working with children and felt that I had something special to share with them. However, I would teach for a session or two and then need to take a break for a few months. I would get burned out. Then I had children of my own and it was as if my DNA changed. [Read more...]
Miss Lori says the movie The Spy Next Door is safe for your kids.
My children and I, plus two other families, had the great fortune to go and see a pre-screening of the movie The Spy Next Door. (I received free tickets through my association with ChicagoMomsblog.com, and I also won several through MomsLikeMe.com Win It Weekend.) We had 10 kids in tow, ages 7-12, and 3 Moms. A very diverse group. First off I can tell you that we all enjoyed ourselves. No painful groans at the end of the movie. No whining wanting to know, “Why did you drag me to see this?!” Everyone came out of the movie happy that we went in. It was kid safe, it was funny, and it was the right length.
For many parents I know that?s absolutely all you need to hear. So you don?t have to read any further. Just gather your kids and head to the theatre when the movie opens January 15. End of story.
For others of you who have an interest in an artistic review, here we go.
